Leacanabuaile Stone Fort

The interior of the fort is one of the best examples of its kind in Ireland. This is a round stone fort, with walls of about 10ft thick and has been reconstructed to a height of about 4ft. Inside are three stone beehive houses, the square house in the middle is apparently of a later date. There is also a souterrain, originally an escape area and a place of refuge and storage, and the remains of a rotary quern for grinding corn. Leacanabuaile is one of very few of these forts to be excavated,...

Staigue Fort

Located on the beautiful Ring of Kerry is Staigue Fort. It is not known for what the fort was used but Staigue Fort represents a considerable feat in engineering and construction. It was built without the use of mortar, using just stones placed at a slight angle, lower on the outside than the inside to allow water to run off.

Most famous of the great circular stone cashels, Staigue is also one of the best preserved and conveys a fair idea of how the larger Iron Age fortifications...

Cloghanecarhan Fort and Ogham Stone
Cahirciveen,Kerry
A ringfort with a clay wall four feet high and lined with stones. Near the south side are the foundations of a beehive hut. The original entrance was probably on the west, and five stones still stand outside. Inside is an Ogham stone with tie inscription D....A.... AVI DALAGNI later superseded by EQQEGGNI MAQI MAQI-CARRATTINN....
